Hive Emporium Opens

Gabriola's newest gallery, the Hive Emporium, will open Thursday, June 18, 6-9PM.  It is located in Folklife Village, occupying the former Artworks space.  The opening show, featuring favourite works of many Gabriola artists,  is titled "Personal Best"  My choice for the show is the image above,  "Gabriola Island Rock Forms Number 23", a 2x3 foot print.  For more info about the Hive Emporium, see this article in our local paper: http://www.soundernews.com/arts-events/hive-emporium-opening-doors-with-thursday-night-gala.html

Metal Prints at Gabriola Gallery

I'm honoured to announce that two of my photographs are featured in the opening exhibit of Gabriola Gallery (at Twin Beaches, 377 Berry Point Road, on Gabriola Island).  Both are prints on aluminum, a process I have been experimenting with since last fall.

The image above, Gabriola Island Forest Number 77,  is 2x3 feet.  The one below, Gabriola Island Rock Forms Number 26,  is 12x18 inches, printed on a bare aluminum base that gives it unusual depth.

Gabriola Galllery is open 5-9 PM Wednesday through Saturday, 10-6  PM Sunday and holiday Mondays, or by appointment.

Arbutus Limb

I'm happy to resume this journal after being preoccupied with other matters for a while.  The image below is a recent one, made at Descanso Bay on Gabriola Island.  I was struck by the contrast in colour between the arbutus limb and the water.  The green colouration of the water was due to reflections of foliage on the opposite shore of a small bay.
